Traditions-Yard Sale Finds Part 2

As I mentioned the other day, I found some really cool things at yard sales over the weekend! Here is one of my favorite finds, and it has a wonderful story behind it! Have you ever see the old "12 Days of Christmas" glasses? Each glass has one of the 12 days of Christmas along with the song verse on the back of the glass! This is what they look like! I love the graphics!

My husband's parents have these glasses (a couple sets) and it's part of their Christmas Eve Family Tradition! His family gets together on Christmas Eve for a traditional Polish dinner and a gift exchange. These glasses are set at each place setting, and after dinner everyone sings the 12 Days of Christmas! Whatever cup that you drank with at dinner, is the part of the song that you sing! Some people who don't like signing often fight over the higher numbered days so that they don't have to sing a lot! lol

What especially makes these glasses special to me is because this is how we told his family that I was expecting our first baby! I found out that I was pregnant with Ben a week before Christmas! We kept it a secret from everyone, because we wanted to surprise them over the holiday. So we were down at his family's Christmas Eve dinner and everyone sang the usual 12 Days of Christmas. As you probably know the end of the song goes like this:

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!

Right after the end of the song, my husband stood up and sang: "On the 13th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, the news of a baby!"

Everyone screamed and cheered! It really was a magical moment and one that really meant a lot because Chris' mom had cancer at the time, and passed away a month and a half later. I wish she was around to see the birth of our boys, but at least she knew we were starting a family!

We video taped that whole song that night so we'll always have that special memory to look back on! Here is a closeup of one of the glasses. The graphics remind me of the "Partridge Family" for some reason! lol

And on the back is the verse and it looks like this.
This is actually my second set of these glasses. I bought my first set about a month ago from Goodwill because I'd like to start this tradition with my family. It's really unusual to find a whole set, I have only seen partial sets in the past. They sell for a lot of money on Ebay, and I couldn't afford to buy them that way. I ended up getting my first set for I think $7.00 and this second set from the yard sale a couple days ago I only paid $3.00! I'm very excited because 2 sets only cost me $10!
If you ever find a set of these glasses, buy them, because this would be a great, fun, memorable tradition to start with your family! It's something that they'll remember and cherish forever!
